The Essential Emerson: Fair Times! Part 3

This year’s entertainment was certainly interesting! Blackberry Smoke worked the crowd Tuesday night. We could hear them from the cabin and did not go down to the show, but they didn’t really leave an impression. Wednesday brought Jake Owen, Thursday saw Jerrod Neimann, and Friday brought Trace Adkins back to the grandstand. These three guys are great and we took a few family walks around the racetrack during part of the shows, but Emerson was quickly losing steam right about showtime. Waking up at 6:30 or 7:00am will do that to you!

Emerson did sleep very well at nap and bedtime though. He fell asleep quickly without fussing most nights, worn out from the day. He took some long naps too and didn’t wake up during the night even if the noise level was a little louder. By Friday night he was so tuckered out, even the fireworks didn’t wake him! Maybe it was a little bit of that “fair food” helping him sleep at night too! No toddler food for Emerson. He was all about the fried whatever, the casseroles, the french fries, and the hamburgers!

Grams working hard!

Of course, I can forget two of the most fun things: the petting zoo and the midway! We had a blast at the petting zoo and a chicken even laid an egg while we were standing there! The midway is always a blast with all the lights and sounds. Emerson got to experience more than just the merry-go-round and bumble bee this year! This year he even got to ride the cars, a “truck train” thing, and the Ferris wheel! But I think he had the most fun running between the swings on the porch! The tractor Grams and Pop bought Emerson was a huge hit too. Anything that can help Emerson haul stuff is a plus in his book. I even think he and Ellington had a little fun with the zoo animal balls I brought.
