Waiting...

Doctor visits are known to be frustrating. Yesterday, what was supposed to be an in and out visit turned out to be an hour and a half wait. We were going in for a weight check just to make sure Emerson's weight was rising properly, after which Bryant was going into work. Once we arrived we went into a room and Emerson was weighed. At that point we went back into the room, redressed him and waited on the doctor. After about an hour the doctor finally made it in the room and then decided to get one of the nurses in to prick (again) Emerson's foot for testing his bilirubin levels. We finally left a few minutes after 10. Good news, Emerson's weight rose 8 ounces in seven days and his bilirubin levels have lowered to 17.3. The bad news is 17.3 is still higher than we wanted. Yesterday's "weight check" visit took longer than his first visit seven days ago.

But we did get to have fun evening
yesterday. Emerson and I picked up Bryant from work and went to see our new friend in Clinton.  Erin is a photographer who did the newborn pictures for us and will be doing a few other sessions for us throughout the year. All the photos were so pretty I wanted them all! Unfortunately, that's not going to happen but we did pick out some amazing shots to use for now and at the end of the year will have some of the others in a nice album. I can't wait for the ones we ordered last night to be ready.

Just because I couldn't resist (and I don't really have a good one from yesterday or today) here's a picture of Emerson beginning to enjoy his play mat.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Emerson,
When you get older and we're looking back, we'll pull up this blog and hopefully have lots of great memories to sift through.  This post is just for you and for that time.  Yesterday (Christmas Eve) your Grams, Pop, Aunt Lane, Uncle Robert, cousin Ellington, Aunt Reagan, and Papaw came to our house.  We didn't want to travel, especially on an hour and a half trip since I'm still recovering and you aren't quite 3 weeks old yet.  We ate and you were given lots of fun presents.  You only cried through half the gifts so I think it was a pretty good day.  You and Ellington matched in your cute striped outfits!  After everyone left, you couldn't decide if you were more sleepy or hungry so we spent awhile figuring that out.

Opening a few presents for you...
Here you finally decided the sleepiness won out.

Your dad and I decided we wanted to have a very low key Christmas day and you have been more than willing to accommodate.  You've been a little fussy and you prefer to be held, waking yourself up whenever we try to lay you down.  But it's been a great relaxing day.  You loved the lamb you found in your stocking and Santa decided to take mom and dad's advice and brought you three books.  Two of the books feature your name inside.  One even has animals celebrating your birth.  We think they're pretty cute and hope you grow to love them.  Currently, your dad and I are trying to eat and keep you content.  Your dad has you in his lap and you have decided that your pacifier is his finger.

It's been a really great past few days since your dad had Thursday and Friday off.  We haven't done anything really special (other than the above) but it's been a great time.

Your dad and I love having you as small as you are but we also can't wait until you get to enjoy the fun books and toys you were given yesterday and today.  We love you so much!

A present for the doctor

Yesterday was our first day home without daddy.  Bryant had to go back to work but he did come home for lunch!  He gets to come home for lunch most days since we live so close to his office.  Emerson decided to be fussy all day, but we made it through.  After Bryant came home, we gave Emerson a bath where he didn't cry the entire time.  All it took was a small bathroom and a heater on high.  Bath time isn't his favorite at the moment.  It ranks right up there with changing clothes and diapers.

Emerson does like to sleep at night though.  At least so far.  There are nights we wake him up after 4 or 5 hours just to make sure he's ok.  :)

Today was our first doctors visit and we didn't even have to wait.  Since there are quite a few sick kids Judy and Dr Hopper had us come in the back door and straight into an exam room.  Emerson is back up to 8lb 3oz  and is 21 inches long now.  Everything looked good to Dr Hopper and Emerson is looking less and less yellow.  He's more pink and yellow now.  They didn't draw blood this time so that made Emerson happy!  He was such a good boy today just laying there and letting the doctor do what he needed to do. But as mentioned in the title of this post, Emerson decided to give Dr Hopper a little present.  He gave us a big dirty messy diaper right on the table.  At least he was only in his diaper!

And now...Emerson has decided he needs his rest.  :)
